What Is Your Egypt?

10/30/2012

That have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt.  Jeremiah 44:12

Where do you go when times get hard?  Do you run to a friend or spouse for answers or do you run to God?  Jeremiah 17:5 states, "Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord."  We are not to place our trust in other human beings.  We are not even to place our trust in our careers, money, education, or chemical/substance.  Throughout the Old Testament, whenever the Children of Israel got into trouble they often ran back to Egypt.  Although God delivered them from the slavery and bondage of Egypt through Moses, they often wanted to go back when times were difficult.  When times get hard, our first inclination should be to run to God for counsel through prayer.  God wants all of our heart.  Notice that when we run to other people/things for answers or affirmation that our "heart departeth from the Lord" (Jeremiah 17:5).  Let us not run to whatever our Egypt is for answers or assistance but to the God Israel.
