The Purpose of Thanksgiving
For all things are yours. 1 Corinthians 3:21
The purpose of giving thanks is not so God’s ego is stroked, but it is for you! Thanksgiving opens your eyes to what God has already provided in terms of your healing, prosperity, and wholeness in every area of your life! When we complain, victory may be right in front of our nose but we cannot see it because we are too occupied with a defeated mentality. That is what happened to the Children of Israel in Numbers 13:26. They came to the border of the Promised Land named “Kadesh.” Victory was right in front of them but they “lifted up their voice, and cried” and “murmured against Moses and against Aaron” (Numbers 14:1-2). Their eyes were closed to the victory ahead of them because instead of giving thanks for God’s promise, they complained. Thanksgiving is not for God’s ego but so He can bless
you! Whenever God tells us to do something it is always for our benefit. Remember, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)!
