the gift

I AM.  Exodus 3:14

First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once remarked, “Today is a gift.  That’s why it’s called the present.”  We are to live in the here and now.  God for example, constantly lives in the here and now or eternal present.  When Moses asked God His name, “God replied to Moses, I AM WHO I AM.  Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you” (Exodus 3:14).  Essentially God is saying “I AM” whatever you need me to be in any given situation at every moment.  I AM your present healer, peace, joy, financier, lawyer, friend, spouse, support, and all and all!  Additionally, God does not live focusing on the past or worried about the future but is in the constant present since He lives in eternity and is not constrained by time.  God sees the victory in your life as a done deal because He lives in the eternal present, has declared the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), and is not constrained by time, which was CREATED by God.  Since we are created in our Father’s image and likeness (Genesis 1:26), we too should ask God to help us focus on the present moment and not past mistakes or future concerns.  Hebrews 11:1 talks about “now faith” or the faith of the present moment.  Let us savor the gift of the present and encourage others to do the same!
