Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:11
This year I encourage you to resolve to do one thing, which is rest! Resting is an indication that we believe and trust God. Conversely, trying to figure everything out, working in our own strength, and self-effort are all indications of unbelief. It has been said that Jesus performed more miracles on the Sabbath day than any other day. What is the reason for this you might ask? It is because the Sabbath was the day that man was resting. It has also been said that when man rests, God works. I believe one of the reasons we don't see more of the miracles and the manifestations of the promises of God in our lives is because we are not at rest. We are not at rest in trying to fix things or even at rest in our minds. Regardless, of how bad things seem in our lives we can still be at rest knowing that God is in control and is working things out for our good (Romans 8:28) behind the scenes. When the Children of Israel were up against a seemingly impossible situation with the Red Sea blocking the route in front of them and Pharaoh's army behind them, Moses "said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day" (Exodus 14:13). Moses told the people to "stand still." They were not to worry, run, or try to figure out how the deliverance would occur! When they rested, God parted the Red Sea and a great deliverance occurred. Sometimes resting is not easy. Pastor Andrew Wommack once said, "The hardest thing you will ever do is rest." The word "labour" as used in Hebrews 4:11 in today’s Scripture in the Greek suggests to toil or exert effort. In fact, Psalm 127:2 says that “it is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of anxious TOIL – for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep” (AMP). God blesses us when we rest. Ask God to grant rest to your mind and to help you rest in your actions. Encourage others to rest in God this year as well!
