In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. Isaiah 30:15
Distractions present themselves on a daily basis to attempt to take away our peace, focus on God and His Word. That is the reason the Bible says that God "wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on" Him (Isaiah 26:3). In order to keep our minds stayed on the Lord, often we have to avoid distractions and become quiet. Distractions come in all forms and shapes such as excessive social media use, constant viewing of news programs, engaging in arguments, getting easily agitated, and focusing on problems more than on God. Distractions attempt to take our focus off God and His Word, consequently disrupting our peace. Jesus was clear that Satan comes immediately to take away the Word that has been sown in our hearts (Mark 4:15) and to distract us. Often the enemy comes in the form of distractions to take our focus off the Word, power, and promises of God. Although the enemy comes immediately to take away the Word, the Bible does not say that he has to be successful. When we become overwhelmed by distractions and the cares of this world, let us pray to God to get quiet, centered, and focus on Him. We can hear God more clearly when we are quiet since He speaks in a "still small voice" (1 Kings 19:12). Let us get quiet, focus on God, and not distractions!
