Look At It New (Information vs. Revelation)

10/4/2013

He who was seated on the throne said, I am making everything new! (Revelation 21:5, NIV)

So often we read the Bible or hear the Word of God and do not receive the things God has promised.  Some of this inability to receive is rooted in our familiarity with the Bible.  As a Scripture is quoted by the Pastor for instance, someone in the congregation will even finish quoting that Scripture as the Pastor is saying it.  Essentially, it becomes information and not revelation which is dangerous!  These people are a “hearer of the word, and not a doer.”
People do not generally act on mere information when it comes to the Word of God but revelation.  That is the reason people get excited when they get a direct rhema word from God into their spirit as opposed to the written Word (or logos) of God.  People are more prone to act on revelation because it is perceived to come directly from the source (God).
Receiving revelation and acting on it is how we possess the promises of God.  Well we can get revelation from God every day. The key to receiving from God is to always read the Bible and hear the Word of God with an open heart.  Let go of any preconceived notions that you may have about a particular passage or verse and imagine that it is the very first time that you are hearing it or seeing it.  Remember how excited you were when you first read a particular Scripture, see it new and get excited all over again.  Let’s get away from the
tradition of just reading or hearing the Word of God for the sake of performing our Christian duties because Jesus even stated that we can make the Word of God ineffective because of our traditions (Mark 7:13).  Allow the Bible and what God speaks to you to become new revelation and receive the promises of God.
