For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable [for He does not withdraw what He has given, nor does He change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call] Romans 11:29 (AMP)

Too often, we hear how we can abort the promises or gifts of God in our lives as Believers.  You have probably heard phrases such as if you don’t utilize the spiritual gift God has given you, He will take it and give it to someone else.  You may have also heard that if you make too many mistakes, you might abort the promise God has spoken to you.  Jesus, however, stated that “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32 NKJV).  The truth is that God is not like man.  He NEVER takes back what He has promised.  When He makes us a promise, it is irrevocable and irreversible according to Romans 11:29.  When God created mankind in the beginning, He blessed them and gave them dominion over the entire earth (Genesis 1:28).  Even though God knew when He blessed man and gave him this promise that man would sin, he did not withhold the dominion promised or revoke the dominion given after man sinned!  Similarly, when God made a promise to Abraham to give him a son (Genesis 15:4), that promise was not aborted when Abraham and his wife Sarah decided to try to bring it to pass in their own strength by having Abraham sleep with their servant girl to produce an offspring (Genesis 16:2).  On the contrary, God gave Abraham and Sarah the son that He had promised (Genesis 21:1).  God’s promises are not based on our actions (good or bad) but on His goodness!  Be encouraged knowing no matter how bad you feel you have blown it, God’s promise(s) to you are irrevocable!
