Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you…Luke 6:26 (NIV)
While it is normal to want to be appreciated by people, we must seek the praise that comes from God alone! The Bible warns about loving “the praise of men more than the praise of God” (John 12:43). In Matthew 21:9 “the multitudes that went before, and that followed Jesus, cried, saying Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” Shortly thereafter when Jesus was on trial before Pilate, the people cried out, “Crucify him” (Mark 15:13). People’s praise and appreciation is fickle, that can love you one minute and hate you the next. Even when people do not appreciate us or notice what we do, God does! If you are feeling unappreciated today, remember that you are “accepted in the beloved” (Ephesians 1:6)!
