Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
As Christians, our hope is in Christ. This is good news! No matter what we may be facing, we can ultimately come out victorious because of what Christ did for us on the cross by conquering sin and death for us. He died, rose, and is seated at the right hand of God. However, people in the Old Testament did not live in the reality of the hope we do today even though some looked forward to it prophetically.
Job for example, expressed his hopelessness after all his children were killed and he lost all his possessions when he stated, "Mine eye shall no more see good" (Job 7:7). Unlike Job, we now can have the hope that there are good days ahead because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Job expressed further hopelessness when he said that "he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more" (Job 7:9). Today though, we know that since Jesus has risen from the dead and is seated at the right hand of God, that we will do so as well (John 14:3). Job talked about the bitterness of his soul (Job 7:11) but we know that because of what Christ did, today's hope "we have as an anchor of the soul" (Hebrews 6:19).
Before Christ rose from the dead giving us the grace to be victorious over every situation and circumstance, we see God ultimately bestowing His grace on Job and restoring all his possessions and blessing him with more children (Job 42:12-13). If God's grace was demonstrated in the Old Testament before Christ's victory over sin and death, how much
more will He display it today! Remember we have a great hope regardless of our circumstances!
