Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
God has made promises to each and every one of us as Believers. Some of these promises are expressly stated in the Bible concerning healing (1 Peter 2:24), prosperity (3 John 2), peace (Isaiah 26:3), freedom from fear (2 Timothy 1:7), and a hosts of other things. Sometimes, God speaks specific promises to your heart. What often prevents us from receiving these promises and believing they will come to pass is our own understanding. The promises God speaks to our heart are often so big that it seems like they are too good to be true. Human understanding is limited. Our limited human understanding reasons out how God will bring His promises to pass in our lives. That is why God admonishes us to trust in Him with all our heart and lean not unto our own understanding. Our mental capacity is limited and we can only reason things out so far. We would be in big trouble if God could only bring to pass things in our lives that we understand. Think about that for a moment. Most of us do not intricately understand how the digestive process works once food is consumed, but it does not prevent it from taking place. Similarly, God may have spoken to your spirit a promise regarding giving birth to a child, and you do not necessarily understand how it will happen because you have been told that you cannot conceive children. Don’t try to understand it all, just believe! God has given us a great privilege in terms of being filled with His very own Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) as Christians and that Spirit leads us into all truth (John 16:13). Since we have the Holy Spirit, God can now communicate and affirm the promises in His Word and that He speaks to our heart not based on our human understanding, but His Spirit. Trust what the Spirit of God is speaking to your heart more than your limited understanding.
