Grace, the Ability to Sin No More

4/1/2013

Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, no man, Lord.  And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: Go and sin no more.
John 8:10-11

No man, woman, or child can stop bad behavior, tendencies, or thought patterns simply based on will power or positive thinking.  The only thing that gives us the ability to overcome sin is what Jesus did for us on the cross in terms of dying for our sins and His love plus grace!  In John 8:11, when Jesus told the woman caught in adultery to go and sin no more, He was not expecting her to overcome sin in her own strength but based on His grace.  Jesus’ forgiveness of her sins and the love He exhibited towards her would enable her to overcome adultery and sin in her life.  God’s grace is a byproduct of His love for us.  Romans 2:4 states that it is “the goodness of God” that “leadeth thee to repentance.”  God’s grace that is a result of His love enables us to overcome sin in any and every area of our lives.  If you or someone you know are dealing with a perpetual bad habit, addiction, or shortcoming of any kind do not try to overcome it in your own strength but rely on God’s grace!
