Disciples or sons?
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14
As Believers, we are to emulate our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! In fact, after Jesus’s resurrection from the dead He told eleven of his original disciples to go make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). The word “disciple” is defined as “a follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher” according to the dictionary. While we are called to be disciples, we are intrinsically sons. After receiving Christ, we receive “the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15). We have received the Holy Spirit as Born Again Believers and God has adopted or grafted (Romans 11:17) us into His very own family. Additionally, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14). While someone may strive to be a disciple, a true son inherently understands their identity as their father’s offspring and acts in accordance with their true nature and effortlessly emulates their father. Let us focus on our sonship and walk in accordance with our true identity!
