For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14
Does it seem like you will never break that addiction or sinful behavior pattern? You are right, you can’t, but Christ has! Let me explain, sin no longer has the preeminence in your life, Christ does as a Born Again Believer! Essentially, “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old you is gone! Although you may stumble and fall, you will inevitably arise (Proverbs 24:16). You may occasionally “visit” sinful behaviors but you can no longer “live” in them! It is impossible to “live” in sin as a Born Again Believer! The Bible puts it this way, “How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” (Romans 6:2). It is impossible to “live” in sin because God has changed you into a new creation by His grace. This wonderful change is initiated and completed by God and is not based on you trying to change yourself for the better. We are changed into Christ’s “image from glory to glory, even as by the SPIRIT of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Although you may occasionally stumble, “A new life has begun” already (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT) and God Himself will continue to perfect that which concerns you (Psalm 138:8)!
