A Little Contamination

9/9/2014

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  2 Timothy 1:7

Once we accept Christ, we are called to walk by faith.  The good news is that God has given us His very own faith to utilize!  Galatians 2:20 states that “I live by the faith of the Son of God.”  The Bible is emphatic that “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7) and the Bible also instructs us to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12).  It has been said that faith is the currency of the Kingdom of God.  Essentially, in order to receive the promises of God, we must utilize our faith.  Again though, we are actually utilizing God’s very own faith so we do not need to conjure up some faith of our own.  As we listen to God’s Word, our faith automatically increases.  God’s Word contains His faith and “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).  There are things that can contaminate our faith though.  These things are fear, doubt, and unbelief.  Often, this fear, doubt, and unbelief is subtle and creeps in based on the negative things people say to us or things we hear that contradicts what God has promised to bring to pass in our lives.  We are to guard our hearts and to speak only what God has said to combat the wrong things from entering our hearts and choking our faith (Proverbs 4:23 and Proverbs 18:21).  Speaking God’s Word in faith is for us.  Speaking God’s Word does not necessarily make things come to pass, but it allows us not to get into fear and remain confident while God is bringing them to pass!  The more we hear God’s Word, the easier it is to speak it, the more fear and doubt leaves, and the greater our faith.  It is essential not to allow fear, doubt, or unbelief to quench our faith or to choke out what God has promised us in His Word or spoken to our spirits.  God would not have told us He did not give us the spirit of fear if He expected us to put up with fear.  As we submit to God and His Word, fear will leave (James 4:7).  Keep your faith strong by listening to God’s Word and it will not be contaminated by fear, doubt, or unbelief.
