The little foxes…spoil the vines. Song of Solomon 2:15
Have you ever found yourself in a mess and wondered how you got there? Chances are it was a series of small choices that eventually led to the big mess or catastrophe. One day I stepped on the scale praying that it would not read over a certain amount of pounds. Nonetheless, the weeks leading up to that weigh in I had made a series of seemingly insignificant choices including consuming ice cream, cookies, and French fries. That series of small choices had consequences and I ended up being over the weight I wanted to be. Often, we see unwanted baggage in our lives like those unwanted pounds through a series of choices we make. We can pray like I did concerning the weight that there won’t be any repercussions, but that usually does not end up being the case. Just like there are natural laws in motion (i.e. if you keep eating the wrong things and overeat you will gain weight), there are also spiritual laws in motion such as, “He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption” (Galatians 6:8). A series of “small” wrong choices will eventually lead us to a destination that we don’t want to arrive at! That’s why God admonishes us to “trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). We need to trust God with the smallest seemingly insignificant details of our lives so that we can arrive at the perfect destination and purpose that He planned for us from the foundation of the world. Trust Him even in the small things today!
